From now through September, sign up for Discover Card 5% Cash Back on purchases made at gas stations, hotels, theme parks, zoos and bookstores.

My family will easily spend $300 on gas alone between now and September. Five percent of $300 is $15 in my pocket for making routine purchases, and I’ll stretch that $15 further by using it to buy an electronic coupon for online purchases through ShopDiscover. The coupons are often worth $10 more than I pay for them, and I use them at online stores I would buy from anyway. ShopDiscover currently offers over 100 online shopping destinations. I usually can find a coupon code for free shipping as well.

First of all, you need to be certain that you will spend enough money each month so that you will be eligible for the rewards offered by the providers before buying a Cash Back Credit Card.

Yes, you make a good point. Always read the fine print. My Discover account has no minimums to get cash back, but I have been using the same account for over a decade and terms for today’s cards may be different. I never carry a balance on a the two credit cards I use, and I get cash back on one and Amazon.com points on the other. These deals work for me, but everyone needs to do a little research to determine what – if any credit card – works for them.
