Last month, I did an “e-mail cleanse”, an unsubscribed from all the newsletters and promotional email that I thought would be useful but rarely, if ever, read. One of those unsubs was for Marriott Rewards. I find that Marriott hotels are quite nice, but the only traveling my family does these days is by car, up to the U.P. of Mich., to visit parental units. It’s been that way for years. In fact, it seems to me that I could use a Disney vacation but I keep socking away money into savings for an awesome family vacation to Hawaii.
Any way, I unsubbed from Marriott’s email promos on Marriott’s web site. I even received an email confirmation the I unsubscribed from every blessed promotional option that Marriott offered. So, when I found a Marriott promotional email in my morning email yesterday, I thought it was a fluke. When I was greeted by a new Marriott email this morning, I decided that it was not a random error, Marriott screwed up.
The real icing on the cake? When I was willingly receiving Marriott Rewards info, I had the emails filtered to go into a folder I created in Outlook for emails with sales and special offers and the only time I saw the Marriott emails was when I reviewed that folder (and selected 95% of what was in the folder and deleted it). Now the Marriott Rewards emails show up right in my Inbox. Dang. Maybe I deleted the filtering rule for Marriott.
I’m blocking email from Marriott now, so I’ll never see it again unless I remove it from my blocked list. Next time I bless my email with a “cleansing” of junk, I’ll just block the emails and be done with it. I thought I heard someone once say that email was supposed to save time? Yeah, just like we were going to a paperless society. >wink<
